Stop Frame Animation

Pingu was the first stop frame animation piece i had ever seen and what i think is so great about it is that the creators not only managed to give there animations a smooth look to them but that they where able to give them such character in there body language and not having to rely on facial to much and that the body language of the characters says more about them then their facial features because well Pingu lacks facial features. this is something i would like to capture if i decide on using a clay like substance.

this shows a massive growth and development of stop frame animation witch is an incredible achievement and it makes me want to do animation to a higher standard and try and push my skill as an animator.

Planning:

i think the boys room cleaning its self could be a real interesting peace of animation but i'm having trouble thinking about a story because it is all well and good making a good animation but i feel like it should have some sort of narrative and story to it which is why i'm leaning more to the little creature trying to survive in a boys bed room.

but because i like these ideas equally and they both have good aspects about them i'm going to make a mash up of the both of them where a boy has lost something in his room and when he leaves his room to look for it somewhere else the room begins to clean its self and as it does the object he was looking for tries to fight its way throw the room to get to where it is supposed to be but it becomes tricky as the room is cleaning its self.

list of ideas for my stop frame animation short film.

-a blue tak creature gathers more and more blue tak to grow larger

-boys room cleans its self

-a little creatur trys to survive in

a boys massive room

a boy loses something in his room and then his room cleans its self and the object he was looking for treks its way to where it is supposed to be as the room cleans itself around it.

which idea do people like most out of the three i have preposed?

a creature gathers more and more of itself to grow bigger:

6 people

a room cleans its self:

4 people

a creature goes from one side of the room:

3 people

why did they choose what they chose?

creature gathers more and more of it self to get bigger:

Sharn

female

17 years old:: " i would like to see the creature change as it gets bigger", " i would like to see very exaggerated features "

a room cleans itself:

Emma

female

30 years old:" i think it would be visually interesting and i would be intrigued as to what objects you would use "

a creature goes from one side of the room to the other:

Charlie

male

19 years old " i chose it because i think there could be a story to it "

film layout, creature grows by taking in more and more of itself.

my research has shown me the the majority of people like the idea of a growing creature and that the majority of the 6 who voted for this idea where male, meaning me as a 17 year old male can just do what feels right to my own demographic.

the way i would like to do this is by having a shape shifting blob that has no defined features and was ever changing. but when it gains mass it would change a little each time until it was fully grown and would then resemble something like a human to signify the end of its growth. i would like to see it use its shape changing ability to its fullest by making it not walk but kind wiggle and slither as i feel its much more interesting to watch then just walking.

i also i want this creature to feel friendly and not creepy or scary so a want to show some happiness or rather warmth from this little creature so it seems cute and not discussing.
