new wave practical

what film and scene will you be recreating from french new wave?

i will be using la Jetee and the scene is the last in the film where the main character gets shot infant of his younger self.

Explain what changes you will make to narrative, characters, style, setting, shooting style etc?

the scene will still have an extremely similar narrative. to explain, it will be a man running to catch a girl but i won't be filming at an airport because i just physically can't do that but i will just change it to her about to get into a taxi instead of a plane. the style will be changed from its original style that is reminiscent of a picture book for a more modern style of digital film, but i think i will still keep the black and white look as it pays tribute to the new wave style.

story board:

LA JETEE PROJECT:

EVALUATION:

This is a recreation of the final scene in La Jetee where the main character runs to meet his love but before he can make it he gets shot down in front of his younger self.

This i feel is both a faithful recreation of the final scene wile at the same time mixing it with modern sensibilities witch was my goal from the start. The fact that there is no narration and the film is video and not pictures should show you already that this is an update on what La Jetee was before but other things like the quick cuts and the way the opening of the film is tension filled is also a way of changing it up from the original La Jetee so that remains faithful but with and added layer of depth that could not be reached using the style of the original.

This is a teaser trailer and is mixed in with different titles to help convoy the fact that it is just a teaser, I think the first half of the teaser is edited more like a flat out scene but the second half is where i feel the teaser part of this film kicks in, the titles the shift in sound and the build up to the title of the film.

The black and white astatic was put in place as a homage to the original and it looks a a little out of place in certain shots like the shot where the main character stops running, the black and white didn't really help with the over exposed background. In fact it really just made it worse but i still think that aside from that it fits the tone of this teaser well.

Over all i think the teaser dose well to inform you of the main points of what the film might be about like time travel when we see him look up at his younger self, the little bit of dialogue during the black out tells us what he's running for, the man with the gun tells us there is a threat he has to avoid all the aspects in this teaser tell you just a little bit about what this film might be and thats really what a teaser should do, so in that regard i think it is a success.
